Projekt 2 "American Civil War"
ACW Startpunkt
Es begann mit der Suche nach einem neuen gemeinsamen Projekt in Spielerkreis und damit, dass mein Sohn seine Unionstruppen auf eBay verkaufen wollte.
Meine erste Wahl wären Konföderierte gewesen, aber die Gelegenheit wurde als Zeichen interpretiert. (Im selben Deal wechselten auch eine Zahl an Orks & Goblins Miniaturen den Besitzer, aber das ist eine andere Geschichte.)
Die Basierung entsprach nicht ganz dem gewünschten Standart (20x20mm Bases), war dafür aber bombenfest verklebt. Also wurden die Basen auf die gewünschte Größe eingekürzt.

My first choice would have been Confederates, but the opportunity was taken as a sign. (A number of Orcs & Goblins miniatures also changed hands in the same deal, but that's another
story.)
The basing didn't quite correspond to the desired standard (20x20mm bases), but it was glued on tightly. So the bases had to be cut to the desired size.
Erstes Ziel: "Rebels And Patriots"
Da für Black Powder oder ähnliche Tabletop Regeln der Truppenbedarf schon recht hoch ist, wurde als erstes Ziel "Rebels and Patriots" ausgesucht.
Als 24 Punkte Starter-Liste wählte ich die Unionstruppe 1862-63 (No. 35). Zwei grüne Trupps Linieninfantrie, zwei Veteranen Trupps Linieninfantrie und mittlere Artillerie.
Zusammen 48 Figuren plus Kanone mit Besatzung.
Ein einfacheres Ziel, das gut als Kern für eine größere Zahl an Truppen dienen kann.
Since the need for troops is quite high for Black Powder or similar tabletop rules, "Rebels and Patriots" was selected as first aim.
As a 24 point starter list, I chose Union Troops 1862-63 (No. 35). Two green squads of line infantry, two veteran squads of line infantry and medium artillery. Altogether 48 figures plus
cannon with crew.
An easy target that can serve well as a core for a larger army.
Bemalung der ersten Miniaturen
Die ersten 12 Figuren wurden hellgrau grundiert und mit dunklem Blau (Vallejo Stormy Blue), so wie hellem blau (Vallejo Deep Sky Blue) bemalt. Die restliche Basisbemalung wurde mit Contrast Paints aufgetragen.
Nach dem Vorgang wurde Quickshade Dark Tone angwendet und nach dem Trocknen nur wenige Akzente aufgesetzt.
Bei den nächsten 12 Miniaturen wurde der Vorgang wiederholt unter Vermeidung der Fehler, die im ersten Durchlauf auffielen.
Hilfreich war hier u.a. das Video "Dip like a Pro" von Tabletop Basement.
Bei der Mannschaft der Kanone musste ein anderer Weg gewählt werden, da die basierten Miniaturen nur wenig Raum zum gezielten Bemalen ließen. Hier wurden die Hosen mit Citadel Shadow Grey (heute: The Fang) als Basisfarbe bemalt und dann über drei Schichten immer mehr Deep Sky Blue hinzugefügt. Oberteile der Uniform wurden mit Stormy Blue begonnen und nach einem Wash mit Nuln Oil mit Highlight versehen.
The first 12 figures were primed in light gray and painted with dark blue (Vallejo Stormy Blue) and light blue (Vallejo Deep Sky Blue). The rest of the base painting was applied with Contrast
Paints. As next step Quickshade Dark Tone was applied and after drying, only a few highlights were added.
For the next 12 miniatures, the process was repeated avoiding the mistakes that were noticed in the first pass. The video "Dip like a Pro" by Tabletop Basement was helpful here.
A different approach had to be chosen for the crew of the cannon, as the aleady fixed miniatures left little room for targeted painting. Here the pants were painted with Citadel Shadow Gray (today: The Fang) as the base color and then gradually more Deep Sky Blue was added over three coats. Tops of the uniform were started with Stormy Blue and highlighted after a wash with Nuln Oil.
Bei den nächsten zwei Gruppen wurde die Vorgehensweise bei der Artillerie verfeinert.
Basisgrundierung war weider schwarz. Die dunklen Uniformteile wurden mit "Stormy Blue" bemalt und nach Wash mit "Stormy Blue" gefolgt von einer aufgehellten Basisfarbe wieder hoch gemalt.
Die Hosen wurden wieder von "Shadow Grey" bis "Deep Sky Blue" über drei Stufen aufgehellt. Bei der Hautfarbe wurde das Schwarz mit "Bleached Bone" (heute: Ushabti Bone) überdeckt und dann Contrast Paint - "Guilliman Flesh" - verwendet. Ein Highlight wurde mit "Elf Flesh" (heute: Kislev Flesh) gesetzt.
Basegestaltung folgte mit Sandstreu die mit einem Mix von Leim und "Cathan Brown" (heute: Mournfang Brown) versiegelt wurde. Danach Trockenbürstung mit Vomit Brown (heute: Tau Light Ochre) und "Bleached Bone" (heute: Ushabti Bone), plus statisches Gras.
The approach which was used on the canon crew was refined for the next two groups.
Base primer was black again. The dark uniform parts were painted with "Stormy Blue" and then painted up again after a wash with "Stormy Blue" followed by a lightened base color.
The pants were again lightened over three levels from "Shadow Gray" to "Deep Sky Blue". For the skin color, the black was covered with "Bleached Bone" (today: Ushabti Bone) and then Contrast
Paint - "Guilliman Flesh" - was used. A highlight was set with "Elf Flesh" (today: Kislev Flesh).
Decoration of the base followed with sand litter sealed with a mix of glue and "Cathan Brown" (today: Mournfang Brown). Then drybrushed with Vomit Brown (today: Tau Light Ocher) and "Bleached
Bone" (today: Ushabti Bone), plus static weed.
Epics added to the 28mm ACW miniatures
After a long break from ACW, I came back to the topic.
My son gave me his discarded Epics and also a package of 28 figures.
Since I would like to try out "Sharps Practice", I'm thinking about making confederates out of the 28mm figures so that I can have an opposing force for a game.
I did a first test run for painting with an Epics stand. I think the result is quite ok.
