Project 3: "Pike & Shotte"

When Warlord games announced their new epic range "Pike & Shotte" I was looking for 6mm Renaissance troops at Baccus.
Glue your own wire pikes at 6mm? I have certain doubts about my craftsmanship. So Warlord quickly hooked me.

I kept the decision "Epic or 6mm" open for my birthday and then decided to choose the Epic Starter as a gift. So here we are...

The big box reached me in April. And now I just have to start building and painting. Since I'm still a little unsure about the epics, I'll start with the ACW framework - WI freebie - and try out a few methods.

(11.02.23)

First tests were made with the Epic Civil War figures from Warlord Games, which were once given away as a gift with the WI.

Black priming and than drybrushed with white or off white. This allowed me to discover details that I had overlooked before. The method worked very well for the ACW characters.

After the test I tried the same principle with two bases of muskets. Here I tried to use more Contrast Paints - here: Flesh Tearer Red.

In the end the result turned out to be darker than I had hoped due to the primer. In addition, the P&S Epics offered even more details, which made them a bit more difficult to paint.

Even if I was dissatisfied with the result at first, I really like them afterwards. Less colorful but more realistic.

The first infantry unit of Pike & Shotte has now been completed. Generic Imperial troops in terms of color scheme.

Main colour of the uniform was painted with "Flesh Tearer Red" (Contrast), which looks like some dark leather.

As already reported in the video, you can hardly see anything from the second row. You should keep this in mind when painting so that you don't spend too much effort unnecessarily.

One base of cavalry - Harquebusiers - is also almost finished being painted, so things are progressing.

At the turn of the year there are now two Imperial Pike and Shot blocks, two cavalry units with two bases each, a commander and a light gun painted.

One light and two heavy cannons will be added soon.

One or two more blocks of P&S and then it's time for the Protestant side.

There is definitely not enough cavalry in the basic box, but the infantry is by far enough.

I'm curious whether Warlord Games will release cuirassiers by then or whether I'll have to use alternative modells. (01/09/24)

(May 2024) Slowly but surely the Pike & Shotte trops are building up. With the new cuirassier unit there are now two cavalry units for both flanks. Not a large force yet, but a flexible force with potential.
